Urine drug tests are single use kits which can detect the consumption of drugs for a variety of substances between 7-28 days, depending on the test. 

Most urinary drug testing kits involve a two-step process: 1. A urine sample is provided by the donor. 2. The urine sample activates the test strips for the detection for the presence of drug substances.

When measuring the presence of substances, the urine test kits use cut-off levels for onsite drug testing, in compliance with Australian Standards.  A result will only show “Not Negative” if the amount of the drug in the system is above these cut off levels. 

Detection times can vary depending on a variety of factors including body mass, hydration levels, urine acidity and which drug has been taken and for how long. Detection times can be anywhere from 24 hours all the way to 30 days depending on the substance and person being tested.

Urine drug testing in the workplace:

Urine screens are a common method of drug testing in the workplace. Advantages of urine samples include very accurate readings and the ability to test for more substances, or longer detection periods. All MediNat urine screening tests can identify between five
